Definitions

“Community Energy” means projects generating and/or transporting electricity and heat, energy efficiency and demand reduction and energy supply that are led and/or, at least partly, owned by a group of individuals who are brought together by a common sense of collective identity. In addition, it is mostly understood to follow three principles: democratic control, active participation, and benefit-sharing. However, there is no definition commonly agreed by all or most academics or practitioners. Rather, definitions vary from country to country and researcher to researcher.
