Research Projects
In the following, we present some projects which we think have been and are important for research on community energy and which members of the international network are involved in.

European Research Projects
Several European research projects have dealt and deal with community energy. In the following, we will highlight some of them:
[Co-Power] [REScoop & successors]
- Community Power (Co-Power) project [2013-2016], https://www.communitypower.eu/en/
- REScoop 20-20-20 [2012-2015], https://www.communitypower.eu/en/
REScoop 20-20-20 and successor projects
In 2012, the REScoop 20-20-20 project started. Research was funded under the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) programme. The project has led to the creation of REScoop.eu, the European foundation of renewable energy cooperatives. Since then, REScoop.eu and/or its members have been actively promoting various international (applied) research consortia.

National Research Projects and Programmes
Germany
In Germany, there have been and are several different funding streams under which research on community energy is supported financially. Generally, there are three different levels of support for research in this area (Holstenkamp, 2018):
- National support, most importantly by federal ministries, but also some foundations;
- Support on the level of federal states (Bundesländer);
- Funding of German partners in international research consortia, especially funded by the European Union and in the context of the International Energy Agency (IEA).
In the following, we will highlight some of the programmes and projects, that include research on community energy:
[SINTEG & Kopernikus] [Energy Transition & Society] [SÖF Transformation Energy System]
Large Clusters: SINTEG (BMWi) & Kopernikus (BMBF)

Energy Transition & Society (BMWi)
Research programme “Energy Transition and Society” funded by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) within the 7th Energy Research Programme of the Federal Government:
- Benefits [2020-2022]
Transformation of the Energy System (BMBF/SÖF)
Research programme “Environmentally and Socially Compatible Transformation of the Energy System” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) within the social-ecological research [Sozial-Ökologische Forschung, SÖF] funding measure:
